Founded in 1989 as Claudine Papillon, the gallery was quickly recognized for its cutting-edge programme and characteristic editorial line. Marion Papillon joined Claudine in 2007 and in 2016 the gallery became Galerie Papillon. Bold and, at times, unconventional, the artists they bring together have a common sensibility, a sense of poetry and irony. The gallery is constantly expanding its team in order to support artists from abroad but also with the clear purpose of promoting the French scene, showcasing the diversity and richness of the work of young artists. The gallery is also renowned for defending artists expressing themselves through drawing and work on paper, such as Cathryn Boch (2014 Drawing Now Prize), Frédérique Loutz and Didier Trenet, as well as Joël Kermarrec.
