GALERIEOFMARSEILLE

Galerieofmarseille is a contemporary art gallery open in 2006, located in Marseilles, France. The gallery project was initiated by the Bureau des competences et désirs (Bcd), an production- diffusion structure working in the field of contemporary art. The opening of the gallery came as an answer to Bcd’s will to extend its commitment towards the artists it works with, by presenting their works on the art market, inside and outside Marseilles. From November 2006 to November 2007, for its first season, galerieofmarseille presented the works of Michelangelo Pistoletto, Yvan Salomone and Yto Barrada. Though their aim is not didactic, the respective approaches of these artists have roots in the Mediterranean space in the broad sense. In 2008 galerieofmarseille pursued its will to present artists involved in geopolitical and territorial thematics, by presenting the works of Sophie Ristehueber, Bouchra Khalili and Harald Fernagu. The 2008 programming developed a “Territories-Fictions” approach which reflects the physical and mental reality of the evoked spaces, real and dreamt by turns. In 2009, “Nos Richesses Communes” (our common wealth) put the emphasis on the value of the link between the artistic approach and the different generations of artists represented by the gallery, as well as on invitations of other galleries. Since then the programming of galerieofmarseille has not followed any specific thematic, but has privileged solo shows.
