After running the experimental art space called Montevideo in the old harbour in Antwerp (1980-1984), Annie Gentils opened the doors of the gallery to the public in 1985. It meant a creation of a platform for contemporary art, representing international artists including Michel Angelo Pistoletto, Stephen Willats, Paul-Armand Gette, Hubert Duprat, Jacques Vieille, Cécile Bart and Belgian artists Leo Copers, Bernd Lohaus or Luc Deleu. Today, the gallery presents contemporary multimedia and conceptual work. It continues to show the artists it has worked with in the early ’80s, at the same time supporting new talents – Wesley Meuris, Goele De Bruyn, Charlotte Schleiffert, Vanden Meersch or Herman Van Ingelgem. The two story space enables organizing two concurrent exhibitions. Publications and editions have been completing the activities of the gallery from the early years until today.
