Naomi is her middle name, and the one given to women who convert to Judaism.
As a young student, she was raised in an atheist family by a Senegalese mother and a French father, who later converted to Islam out of love. Naomi doesn’t believe in God, and doesn’t think this should stop her from doing what she’s doing today, although she feels alone in her endeavors. The story alternates between moments of worship and more intimate discussions in the studio, in which real-life elements linked to the practice of the Jewish religion are reproduced.
“To be Jewish is to know how to tell stories, and I think that sharing this story helps me to articulate mine better, that making this film with you can only strengthen me in my journey to become a better Jew.”
