Nogueras Blanchard

NoguerasBlanchard is dedicated to developing a cross-disciplinary international gallery programme, reflecting a variety of conceptually-motivated positions and practices. The gallery’s main goal is to engage in a long-term commitment with the careers of its artists and to be highly involved in the production of works, as well as off-site projects. We have co-produced films, funded biennial projects, artist’s books and publications, working in close alliance with international galleries and institutions. NoguerasBlanchard opened its first space in Barcelona in 2004 and in 2012 a second space in Madrid in order to generate new audiences, contexts and possibilities. Located in Dr. Fourquet, next to the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, we pioneered a re-location of a group of Spanish galleries to the capital. Within a year, a cluster of thirteen galleries known as “Madrid D.F.” became a reference for Madrid’s arts scene. In 2015 the Barcelona venue was moved to a much larger, industrial space in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, that allows for more ambitious projects. We have incorporated artists such as Wilfredo Prieto, Ignacio Uriarte, Rubén Grilo, Mercedes Azpilicueta and Enric Farrés Duran, who all had their first gallery exhibition in NoguerasBlanchard. We have also recently collaborated with established artists such as Joseph Griguely and Richard Wentworth. Our programme accross two spaces allows us to organize exhibition cycles with guest curators. For instance in 2018-19, “Margins of Ten”, an exhibition cycle curated by Rosa Lleó inspired by Charles and Ray Eames’ celebrated film Powers of Ten (1975), or in 2017-18 “On Affection”, a year long exhibition articulated in a series of individual iterations focusing on performance. The gallery’s participation in international fairs is essential for the promotion of our artists world wide, while enabling us locally, to maintain a lively and stimulating environment for art production and exchange.
