Marlborough Contemporary opened in October 2012 as the latest addition to the Marlborough group of galleries. Marlborough Fine Art, established in 1946, has played a pivotal role with some of the great artists of the twentieth century. The new gallery was created within the building occupied by Marlborough for nearly half a century. Marlborough Contemporary works as an independent programme within the Marlborough network and represents a distinct group of artists. Under the direction of Andrew Renton, Marlborough Contemporary has formed a roster of conceptuallydriven artists, working with diverse practices from painting to multimedia installation. The programme focuses on emergent and midcareer artists, especially those with whom Renton has collaborated previously as curator within an institutional context.
