Julia Llerena. Estación Biológica

In the context of their first collaboration, the Centre Civic Vil·la Urània and LOOP present a newly produced video by artist Julia Llerena (Spain, 1985), titled Estación Biológica (2019). Filmed in a desert park in the natural reserve of La Paz (Baja California Sur), it shows the site where Llerena herself built an antenna so to establish an ideal connection between the Earth and the Sky. As a result of the artist’s research on the premises of the CIBNOR (Centro de Investigaciones Biológicas del Noroeste, La Paz, México), the video implies a direct relationship between what is above and below us: the information that is extracted from a desert soil can indeed be the very same that is obtained by looking at a nocturnal sky.
