Ângela Ferreira grew up and studied in South Africa. Ferreira’s work is concerned with the ongoing impact of colonialism and post-colonialism on contemporary society, an investigation that is conducted through in-depth research and the distillation of ideas into concise and resonant forms. Ferreira represented Portugal at the 52nd Venice Biennale in 2007. Recent exhibitions include MACO, Mexico, 2015; CAAA, Guimarães, 2015; Stroom, The Hague, 2014; Lumiar Cité, Lisbon, 2014; Lubumbashi Biennale, Congo, 2013; Stills, Edinburgh, 2013. Ferreira recently won Novo Banco Photo Award 2015, the most prestigious contemporary art award in Portugal. She lives and works in Lisbon.
