Strips (horizontal) 2005 silently opens in complete whiteout, a completely blank, white screen. Moments later the silence is broken with a loud crack and the sound of shattering glass. A fissure in the field of otherwise, pure white, vaguely appears. More cracks follow and slowly resolve and we begin to comprehend. A bank of overexposed fluorescent strip lights are systematically smashed by unseen means off camera until, with a single tube left, finally the exposure is correct and the circumstances of the shoot are made visible. This last tube is then smashed and the room is completely dark. Strips (horizontal) is a study of the physicality of projected light and a determinedly manual fade to black.
