Profile
Artist

Éva Magyarósi is an animator and visual artist. Each of her animated works — including Pasztorlany, “The Shepherdess” — is an inner journey on the edge of dream and fantasy. But a particularly realistic dream and fantasy, where it’s all about us — our affects, our deepest thoughts, in an intimate conversation with ourselves. Éva Magyarósi has made a specialty of two-dimensional cartooning (the technique of Béla Ternovszky, director of the unforgettable Macskafogo, 1986), but in her own, very pared-down way, without chatter, without thunder, but with just the right amount of raindrops to fertilize the narrative. The atmosphere she favors in her cartoons is one of suspended narration, of mystery too, a curiously familiar mystery: it’s immediately clear that the atmosphere, reinforced by a light but profound musical accompaniment and the use of voice-over, plunges us here into the world of our secret disorders.
