Carlos Urroz Arancibia (Madrid 1966) is Executive Director of TBA21 (Thyssen Bornemisza Art Contemporary), a Foundation created by Francesca Thyssen Bornemisza for the production, exhibition and collection of contemporary artworks around social and environmental issues.
From 2011 to the beginning of 2019, he has been Director of the fair ARCOmadrid. Among his achievements, he led the fair during the years of crisis in Europe, strenghtened the realtonship with South America, created the ‘Opening’ section for young galleries and developed ARCO internationally with the creation of ARCOLisboa in 2016. From 2005 to 2011 he was founding director of UP (Urroz Proyectos), organisation born out of the intention to create projects related with cultural management and communication. Simultaneously, he was advisor for Plastic Arts for different institutions in the Madrid Community and committee member of the ICO Foundation. Between 1998 and 2006 he was director of the Galería Helga de Alvear, while previously he was Associate Director at ARCO for four years.
