RIVÂL is part of Thomias Radin’s project The Myth of Karukera and Cibuqueira, which was inspired by the two native names of the main islands of Guadeloupe. Radin weaves a story exploring the human condition, the power of movement, and the enduring relevance of myth in shaping our understanding of the world. The film was shot in Greece and tells the story of two rival dancers: Cibuqueira and Karukera, played by Thomias Radin and Andrege Bidiamambu. Throughout the film one sees the uncertain path of the dancers, who are migrants in a foreign country searching for their identities. Greece as a country of migration serves as the backdrop—with scenes shot at sea, at bus stations, in administrative buildings, museums, on rooftops inAthens, in modest apartments, at day and night. The two rivals dance on their common quest for belonging and create a shared language through movement.
