Hiuwai Chu is Curator of Exhibitions at the Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA) (2016–present), where she was previously Assistant Curator (2007–2016). She has worked on exhibitions with artists such as Rita McBride, Lawrence Weiner, The Otolith Group and Raqs Media Collective. Most recently, she has curated Undefined Territories: Perspectives on Colonial Legacies (2019), Akram Zaatari: Against Photography. An Annotated History of the Arab Image Foundation (2017) and Andrea Fraser. L’1%, c’est moi (2016). Chu’s work experience also includes the executive production of the Catalan Pavilion at the Venice Biennale (2011, 2009).
Prior to moving to Barcelona, Chu was Associate Editor at Aperture, New York (1999–2002). She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from Barnard College, Columbia University, New York (1999).
She currently lives and works in Barcelona.
