Lisa Long is awarded the Loop Matadero Curatorial Residency 2024, a collaboration between Loop Barcelona, Centro de Residencias Artísticas de Matadero Madrid (CRA) and Centre d’Arts Santa Mònica.

The residency will offer the curator the opportunity to interact with artists, institutions and art professionals from the contemporary scene in Barcelona and Madrid. It will also present the research developed at the Centre d’Arts Santa Mònica in collaboration with the “Video Tuesdays” programme.

Lisa Long (b. Oakland, California, lives in Berlin) is a curator specializing in contemporary and time-based art. Her curatorial practice is artist driven, and seeks to expand how we perceive and understand the world by amplifying transdisciplinary voices from around the globe who use new technologies, moving image, performance, and sound to engage in various forms of storytelling. Long currently serves as the Artistic Director of the Julia Stoschek Foundation, where she has curated the program since 2018.

“I’m delighted and grateful to have been chosen as the 2024 curatorial resident. The focus on video aligns perfectly with my previous work and provides a unique opportunity for me to explore and contribute research on video art in Spain and its intersections with South America. Through my experience curating video, the medium has revealed itself as an emancipatory tool—or technology—for artists around the world to liberate themselves from classic forms of representation and social confines such as gender roles and racist stereotypes. I look forward to immersing myself in these histories embedded within each city, and to creating meaningful connections with artist and arts professionals from each scene and beyond.” – Lisa Long
