Loop Lab Busan, the new fair promoted by Loop Barcelona in South Korea and taking place from April 24 to 26, will host a prominent representation of Catalan galleries within the special program ‘Focus Catalonia’.
Supported by the Government of Catalonia as part of its strategy to strengthen the presence of Catalan cultural projects in Asia, ‘Focus Catalonia’ aims to give visibility to galleries and artists from the region in new international contexts.
The Catalan participation includes both established and emerging spaces, presenting a generation of artists working at the intersection of video, film, performance, and new media, including the widely awarded and provocative Catalan filmmaker Albert Serra (Mayoral), the Venezuelan experimental filmmaker based in Barcelona Valentina Alvarado Matos (FUGA), established Argentine-born performance artist Cecilia Bengolea (àngels barcelona), and Barcelona-based rising digital studio Six N. Five (Load Gallery).
In addition, Galeria Senda will present a recent work by Catalan artist Xavi Bou, the emerging Sorondo Projects will showcase work by Venezuelan-South Korean artist Suwon Lee, based in Barcelona, and Suburbia Contemporary will premiere a new piece by Italian artist Giovanni Ozzola.
‘Focus Catalonia’ strengthens the ties between Barcelona and Busan—twin cities—and highlights the potential for cultural collaboration between Catalonia and South Korea.
