Margit Lukács (Amsterdam, 1973) and Persijn Broersen (Delft, 1974) live and work in Amsterdam. After completing their studies at the Sandberg Institute and residency at the Rijksakademie, they have established an international reputation in The Netherlands and abroad, frequently screening their films at both festivals and art institutes. They work in a wide variety of media—most notably video, animation and graphics—producing a myriad of works that reflect on the ornamental characteristics of today’s society. Characterized by a quest for the sources of contemporary visual culture, their video pieces incorporate (filmed)footage, digital animation and images appropriated from the media. Broersen & Lukács demonstrate how reality, (mass)media and fiction are strongly intertwined in contemporary society.
